Inception Review

by Dante Rosario on September 5th, 2010

“An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.”  “Inception did just that for not only 2010 films but for years to come.  You can always tell when you are at a good movie when the audience doesn’t make a peep.  Everyone is so into the feature that they don’t want to move because they feel they might miss something important.  That is what it was like watching “Inception.”  This is Christopher Nolan’s first film since box office mega hit “The Dark Knight,” and believe me “Inception” is equally great. What sets this film apart is the acting; Leonardo DiCaprio and the entire crew are incredible.  The storyline is refreshingly new and original.  The plot is ingeniously thought out and performed.  This film has everything.

“Inception” is about a skilled thief, Dom Cobb, who steals the valuable secrets of others from deep within their subconscious while they are dreaming.  It is because of Cobb’s ability that has made him an international fugitive and forced him to leave his old life behind.  One final mission could give Cobb back the life he wants, but only if he can perform the impossible task of inception.  Instead of stealing the idea, he must plant one.   Cobb gathers the only team of experts who are qualified to perform the impossible task.  The team soon realizes that no amount of planning can prepare them for the dangerous obstacles set to predict their every move.

Christopher Nolan is known for his reputation to not only direct, but also write original pieces with the most unique plots and storylines.  “Inception” may be his greatest yet.  This film is an adventure from beginning to end that questions the laws of the real world and the dream world.

The acting was performed very well all the way around.  There aren’t cheesy lines that seem repetitive of other films.  The supporting characters each have their own important roles, and unless each plays their critical part, the plan fails.  Without the great acting, this film would fall into a level B category that is solely considered good because of the storyline.   Leonardo DiCaprio leads the way as he racks up another star performance.  His ability to convince the audience of his role in “Inception,” is astonishing.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt performs his best character to date as DiCaprio’s right hand man in the film.  Ellen Page plays a young, brilliant mind that must design a maze for the team to navigate through.  Her presence on film is always good and she furthered her acting ability with this role.

“Inception” was a witty new idea in film and was captured brilliantly.  This movie will definitely be in the hunt for many awards in 2010.
