“An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.” “Inception did just that for not only 2010 films but for years to come. You can always tell when you are at a good movie when the audience doesn’t make a peep. Everyone is so into the feature that they don’t want to move because they feel they might miss something important. That is what it was like watching “Inception.” This is Christopher Nolan’s first film since box office mega hit “The Dark Knight,” and believe me “Inception” is equally great. What sets this film apart is the acting; Leonardo DiCaprio and the entire crew are incredible. The storyline is refreshingly new and original. The plot is ingeniously thought out and performed. This film has everything.

“Inception” is about a skilled thief, Dom Cobb, who steals the valuable secrets of others from deep within their subconscious while they are dreaming. It is because of Cobb’s ability that has made him an international fugitive and forced him to leave his old life behind. One final mission could give Cobb back the life he wants, but only if he can perform the impossible task of inception. Instead of stealing the idea, he must plant one. Cobb gathers the only team of experts who are qualified to perform the impossible task. The team soon realizes that no amount of planning can prepare them for the dangerous obstacles set to predict their every move.

Christopher Nolan is known for his reputation to not only direct, but also write original pieces with the most unique plots and storylines. “Inception” may be his greatest yet. This film is an adventure from beginning to end that questions the laws of the real world and the dream world.

The acting was performed very well all the way around. There aren’t cheesy lines that seem repetitive of other films. The supporting characters each have their own important roles, and unless each plays their critical part, the plan fails. Without the great acting, this film would fall into a level B category that is solely considered good because of the storyline. Leonardo DiCaprio leads the way as he racks up another star performance. His ability to convince the audience of his role in “Inception,” is astonishing. Joseph Gordon-Levitt performs his best character to date as DiCaprio’s right hand man in the film. Ellen Page plays a young, brilliant mind that must design a maze for the team to navigate through. Her presence on film is always good and she furthered her acting ability with this role.

“Inception” was a witty new idea in film and was captured brilliantly. This movie will definitely be in the hunt for many awards in 2010.

I’m not sure that this will be the year’s funniest movie, but parts will definitely have you cracking up hysterically. There was a lot more crude humor than I had originally expected when I saw the trailer.

Comparing this film to others that director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have worked on together, I would say it falls behind “Anchorman” and “Step Brothers” and places right above “Semi-Pro.” It just wasn’t quite as funny as I was expecting it to be. Some of the humorous lines seem forced with bad acting, while others are subtle and hilarious.

I didn’t think that Mark Wahlberg did a great job in this film. Whenever I see him on screen I am rarely convinced by the role he is playing. In “The Other Guys” Walhlberg plays as Terry Hoitz, a tough cop looking to crack the next big case that will further his career. Hoitz is partnered with Allen Gamble (Ferrell) who takes a very different approach to police work. This causes the two partners to have a hard time seeing eye to eye. Many of the scenes that focus on his life seem to drag on and take the movie in no real direction. Will Ferrell is funny in the movie, but it definitely was not his best role when compared to some of the comedies he has appeared in. One of the best roles, as well as one of the funniest, was Michael Keaton as the captain. I laughed as hard, if not harder at the scenes with Keaton in it as I did with Will Ferrell.

“The Other Guys” is a decent comedy.

The Last Exorcism is shot in a documentary style about a minister (Cotton Marcus) who lets a camera crew follow him on his last exorcism and see how everything is done, but someone or something else has a surprise in store for them.

Cotton is played by Patrick Fabian who deliver a very believable performance as a minister who is trying to cope with what he is seeing happen in front of him. He shows the true emotion of someone being frightened of what is happening in front of him. Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is the girl who needs to be exorcised and when you watch her performance you see someone who is terrified of what is happening which makes the movie very believable. When she does her blank stares into the camera or at the characters you ask yourself is she really possessed.

As stated above the movie is shot like a documentary with the audience getting the view behind the camera similar to movies like Cloverfield, Blair Witch, and Quarantine. This film was different from those films by the camera being more steady and easier to see what is going on. The camera at times looks as if it is one a stand because its so steady which you usually dont see from movies shot in this style. The way the film is shot brings you as an audience member into the situation and makes the movie that much more believable.

With a relatively unknown director in Daniel Stamm (only directed two other unknown movies), he delivered a believable product that makes you wonder what is happening. Their is a few parts in the movie that were unneeded and made you ask why was this in there. He also leaves you wanting more and wondering what the hell is going on with the way the movie ends which will make an audience hate the movie or love the movie.

All in all I was looking forward to this movie and was a little disappointed to see it was a PG 13 rating which means it wasn’t going to be very scary, which is what I was expecting with a movie called The Last Exorcism. I give the movie a 6 out of 10 would have been better with lost footage to explain the ending or with an R rating.

First let me start by saying I didn’t watch much of the A-Team growing up so this is a whole new experience for me.

The A-Team is based off a hit TV show in the 80′s About War veterans who are known for doing some of the craziest things but getting the job done are framed for something they didn’t do and have to clear their names and find out who is behind the crime. Along the way they find out some interesting things that change the way they view things.

The Filming in the movie is done nicely with a lot of high powered explosions in which the camera is right in the middle of and sometimes even getting hit by something which puts you right in the action. In some of the scenes they flip back and forth between the action and the group talking about what they are going to do and then back to action of them doing certain things instead of telling you and them just doing it walks you through each step they were going to do which makes things more real for you and doesn’t make you remember all they were going to do to see if they actually do it.

The acting in the movie was great Liam Neeson put in superb performance as Hannibal Smith. The way he presents himself in the movie and just goes into all details on the way he acts is something that draws me in more to his characters. The surprise of the movie is Quinton Rampage Jackson, you wouldn’t expect much from someone with little to no acting experience to be able to deliver a pretty good performance and show the emotion he showed in the movie. Jessica Biel was a little awkward as Captain Sosa because she just wasn’t as demanding as that character would be and the way she held the gun it just looked like was something she wasn’t comfortable with and just didn’t make for a truly believable character. Sharlto Copley as Murdock was amazing because he was crazy and out there and just so believable. He was probably my favorite character.

Director Joe Carnahan hasn’t done very many known movies probably most known for is Smoking Aces and this film was a big step up from that movie not only in directing but also in expectations and he did a good job of delivering an action packed movie with a good storyline that kept the viewers wondering what will happen next.

All in all as for never really watching the original show which this movie may differ from or may be just like it.

I feel the movie is an 8 out of 10 an action packed movie that delivered in many ways.

Toy Story 3 is the 3rd movie about a kid named Andy’s toys and the relationships they have with Andy and with the toys themselves. This one is about Andy going away to college and having to decide what he wants to do with his toys and a misunderstanding that sends the toys on a adventure full of drama, suspense and lots of turns and surprises.

This movie was filmed with the famed Pixar Animation Studios technology. Pixar just keeps setting the precedent for animation movies. The movie is so seamless and its amazing how they can show such facial expressions to really show the feelings of the characters. The animation is just stunning, it just gets more and more real with every movie.

As for the acting in the movie its just voice acting which is a little easier to do but still needs to be very flowing and the actors and actresses need to blend well together and they all do.

The Director Lee Unkrich just keeps showing he has the knack for directing great Pixar movies such as Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, and both the other two Toy Story movies. He has just getting better and better with every movie he directs.

My overall assumption of the movie is its a great movie for all ages with a little darker undertone in the movie but its a great movie for all ages and it is a must see movie for this summer. I would give the movie a solid 9 out of 10.

The Karate Kid is somewhat a remake of the original Karate Kid starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi. This movies tries to differ from the original by it being a 12 year old named Dre moving from Detriot to the Huge city of china. It shows the hardships of Dre who is moving to somewhere new let alone another country and how he has to try and fit in. He Tries to make friends with a young girl named Meiying who is his age which sets off a bully which scares Dre and makes the move very hard on Dre until he meets Mr Han played by Jackie Chan who Teaches him life lessons and Kung Fu. Along the Way Dre teaches Mr Han a few lessons himself.

The Film grabs your attention with the way the camera moves during fight scenes and the way in pans out to show you the city and the historical landmarks of china. During critical parts in the movie that show emotion the view shows you the body language and facial expressions that you would come to see as if it was happening right in front of you. The film is a different take on the Karate Kid but they left in the powerful scenes from the original with there own little twists which helps sell the movie.

The acting in the movie shows us a different side of Jackie Chan which just shows us how good of an actor he actually is. Its hard to live up to the performance of Mr. Miyagi from the original but Jackie put his own twist on it which makes him stand apart of the character of Mr. Miyagi and makes him his own character, which will be known as Mr. Han. As for Jaden Smith as Dre he did a pretty good job. People have said that during certain scenes he has just a blank stare at the situation which i think is perfect because as a 12 year old kid you are going to know how to take in certain things that are happening and how to respond which i think helps sell the character as believable. Zenwei Wang as the Cheng the bully did a great job of being the hard nosed mean kid and his performance was very believable as a true bully and would scare a lot of 12 year olds if they were like that to them which really sells the character.

Director Harold Zwart had a real challenge on his hands by directing a movie that is a loosely based remake because everyone loved the original karate kid and he had to put his own spin and make this movie as entertaining as the original. He has done a few other movies that are kid friendly suck as agent Cody banks and pink panther 2 so he had the kid aspect down but he had to throw in some drama into this movie also keeping it kid friendly and he lived up to the task and made a very entertaining movie for all ages.

I would rate this movie a 7 out of 10 and a great movie to take kids of all ages too.

Jonah Hex is based off a comic and it tells the story of Jonah Hex who is in the U.S. Military and has to watch his wife and kid burned alive and left with a brand on his face and left for dead. He is believed to have supernatural forces by everyone but himself.

The film is not shot very well there are parts in the film that its hard to see what is going on especially when it is happening during the dark scenes. When Megan Fox is on the screen the camera has like a glow on her face which I think takes away from the natural look of the women in the western. The action scenes don’t even try to look real they look a little cheesy and not well organized.

Acting – Josh Brolin gives a decent performance as Jonah Hex, he doesn’t show very much emotion for someone watching his family burned alive which is an emotion you think would be able to touch into but he doesn’t tap into the pain. This was not one of Josh Malkovich best roles, he was not very convincing as a evil character like is was as Cyrus in Con-Air. He has the same face throughout the whole movie which throws me off. Megan Fox didn’t have much on screen time but at the start of her scenes she did a decent job of acting and showing emotion but as the movie continued she didn’t perform as well which in part was probably because of the character she plays.

Director - James Hayward has only directed one other movie which was an animated movie names Horton Hears a Who. In this movie you can see he hasn’t done much directing which doesn’t fair well with this movie or with all the comic lovers who were expecting a lot with this movie and it didn’t deliver.

I would give this movie a 5 out of 10 which is generous. It didn’t show me anything worth recommending to anyone.
