The Starting Lineup (Actors/Actresses and Director) - Bruce Willis (Frank Moses), Mary-Louise Parker (Sarah Ross), Karl Urban (William Cooper), Morgan Freeman (Joe Matheson), Helen Mirren (Victoria), John Malkovich (Marvin Boggs). and directed by Robert Schwentke.
The Gameplan (The Plot) – A graphic DC Comic about a former Black-Ops agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) who is struggling to cope with retirement and adjust to real life so he tries his hand at a relationship, sorta. He strikes up a conversation with one of the pension workers over the phone only, and when he starts to like her someone puts out a hit on him and he assembles his old team to figure out why someone wants him dead.
Touchdowns (Positives) – Mary-Louise Parker’s performance was spot on, she conveyed innocence, frightened and eagerness in her role. Bruce Willis delivers another one of his indestructible characters that he can always play. The movie has a lot of funny lines and character such as John Malkovich as Marvin Boggs who is so paranoid about technology and that people are trying to always spy on him. This movie is very entertaining with a fight scene that a lot of people will recognize with their use of wrestling and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) moves which brings in a nice change from the normal fight scenes of just punches.
Penalties (Negatives) – The movie felt a little rushed and pushed ahead a little to quick. They didn’t really explain some details that would help you understand a little better all that is going on. The only other thing that was not needed was the postcard transition from city to city it just looked a little cheesy and took away from the film.
Coaching Performance (Director) – This film is nothing like Robert Schwentke’s other films (Flightplan and The Time Traveler’s Wife). He delivers a pretty entertaining action movie that also has a bundle of laughs attached. I loved the way he traveled from city to city, in all they went to around 7 to 10 different cities which helps build the movie. As stated above I wasn’t a fan of his postcard transition from city to city though.
The Game Winner – This movie is an action-comedy that will keep you entertained from the beginning to the end with pretty good acting as well as some scenes that you haven’t seen in the movies before.
Game Summary (Final Thoughts) – My first words leaving this film was how it was very entertaining with a great blend of action and comedy. The more I see John Malkovich in these roles the quicker I forget about his role in Jonah Hex (Which was so bad). This movie is a movie that will give you laughs and keep you engaged with the action in the film.
Overtime (MPAA Rating) – The film is rated PG-13 which is warranted with the violence in the film and only 1 or 2 bad words. There is one scene that may be to much for younger kids where two grenades land on two people and blow them up. All in all though the film is pretty much a PG-13 movie.
