The Warrior’s Way

by Gary Barnidge on December 9th, 2010

The Starting Lineup – Yang (Dong-Gun Jang) Lynne (Kate Bosworth) Ron (Geoffrey Rush) Colonel (Danny Huston) Eight-Ball (Tony Cox) Saddest Flute (Lung Ti) Sngmoo Lee (Director)

Gary’s Thoughts – I was very intrigued about the concept of the movie with ninjas in a western setting which is different and had me very interested in the film. After about 45 minutes into the movie I was very disappointed with what had seen so far because it had been so slow and not much had been happening but the last 30 to 40 minutes of the film picked up and had a lot of action which helped the movie deliver on some level. The movie have a lot of great action scenes (when they had action scenes) with some unique and crazy visuals. There was also some horrible CGI in the film where they try to show scenery behind them but you can tell that the green screen was used and it just takes away from the film. For the most part the acting throughout the film was pretty bad and just looked forced in a lot of ways.

The Game Plan – When a warrior (Dong- Gun Jang) is told to kill everyone in the opposing clan and his last one is a baby he turns his back on his clan and hides in a small town in the middle of nowhere. When his skills are needed he gives away an important piece of information needed from those hunting him.

Touchdowns – The CGI fight scenes are very entertaining with nice effects such as a strobe light effect and some crazy fighting styles and sword play. Dong-Gun Jang delivered in his first American film in the way he portrayed a character that is trying to leave a lot of bad memories behind him and move on.

Penalties – Kate Bosworth’s accent is horrible and changes a few times throughout the whole film which just distracts you. She also looks as if she didn’t really want to be in this movie with the way her acting looks forced. The jokes used throughout the movie are horribly timed and just not funny at all. The movie is slow and doesn’t pick up until the last 30 minutes or so. Some of the CGI in the film looks horrible when is comes to the scenery which just looks so fake.

Fumble – There is just nothing going on in the first 3/4ths of the movie and when it starts to pick up to much is going on that you just get lost and may turn you away from the movie. To much focus on the build up and not enough action for throughout in a movie called The Warrior’s Way about an assassin you would think there would be more action.

Game Summary - You don’t really to show up for the movie til the last 30 minutes because you wont miss any story and you will see all the action that is in the film. Kate Bosworth just doesn’t deliver her best performance in this role and she may have been better without her accent.
