Saw 3D

by Gary Barnidge on October 30th, 2010

The Starting Lineup – Tobin Bell (Jigsaw/John), Costas Mandylor (Hoffman) Betsy Russell (Jill), Cary Elwes (Dr. Gordon), Sean Patrick Flanery (Bobby), Chad Donella (Gibson), and Kevin Greutert (Director)

Gary’s Thought’s – Is this the final Saw movie to be made? They say this is the last Saw and hopefully this will be true. When I went into the movie I wasn’t expecting much because the previous movies were all very watered down so I expected this one to be the same. To my surprise this movie was more watered down with a plot that makes no sense. It feels like they are just trying to get the most they can out of this franchise. The Movie was written horribly and some of the acting was quite disappointing. They tried to just put in pointless gore instead of putting in an interesting story. The only upside in the movie was the 3D which wasn’t bad with saw’s and nails and body parts coming at you. Other then that there wasn’t really anything that truly stood out as a positive.

The Gameplan – Jigsaw’s legacy has been brought back to the big screen with new traps and new victims. When a survivor of a jigsaw trap gathers other survivors to console them, Jigsaw sees it is time to reveal a secret to the survivor in his own way with a bloody game that reveals a big secret about the survivor.

Touchdowns – The 3D in the film is pretty good with the different things that come out at you but in all honesty you don’t need to see the movie in 3D.

Penalties – Where to start, I remember when the “Games” people were put into was because they truly deserved it and was to better them as a person, and they had a chance to survive. The very first scene in the movie completely loses that aspect and is pointless. Three people are put in a situation because of their relationships with each other and only two of them have a chance to survive which completely abandons the true nature behind the Jigsaw “Games”. While what happens is very graphic and a very public display their is no mention of it throughout the whole film which makes it pointless and is just unnecessary gore. As you can see this part has truly turned me off from the movie from the get go. Next the acting from Chad Donella was almost unbearable to watch, he just looked a little out of his element but it also could be contributed to the writing of the film.

Coaching Performance – Kevin Greutert didn’t do anything special to help the film stand out from previous Saw movies. He went with what worked for him in the previous movie he directed (Saw VI) which wasn’t any better then this one. It was probably hard to find a way to end the franchise with the way the previous films were made but he truly doesn’t end the franchise, he left it open for a chance for more to be made even with the promoting of this being the last one.

Fumble – When they decided to just go with pointless gore instead of staying true with what Jigsaw stood for and having a interesting plot or at least a plot at all. The way the film was written will have you asking yourself why would he/she say that and at times will make you laugh when its supposed to be serious.

Game Summary – Saw 3D is a movie with decent 3D but isn’t needed. It discredits all that Jigsaw stood for and just decides instead of having a plot that has meaning and keeps you interested, it goes with crazy amounts of gore which doesn’t make the movie very good to watch and truly cant even be categorized as a horror film because it is not scary at all. This coming from someone who loves all horror movies from B horror movies to foreign horror movies to big time horror movies.
